Cantilever Panels with Integrated Edge Protection Sockets:
Permadec were engaged to deliver an innovative formwork solution for the Inland Rail Beveridge to Albury Tranche 2 works. Our Permadec Cantilever Panels — incorporating integrated edge-protection sockets — were successfully installed on the Hamilton Street SUP structure, marking their first use in Australia. Each panel achieved a cantilever of 1.3 m beyond the top flange, providing a robust and efficient formwork platform.

Permadec coordinated delivery to site four weeks ahead of the rail possession, with steel girders arriving one week later. By installing the panels at ground level, the project team significantly increased installation efficiency and reduced crane time.

The integrated sockets allowed the site crew to fit edge-protection poles and mesh directly to the panels, ensuring that once the girders were placed, a safe working platform and fall protection were immediately available. This approach enabled the deck to be poured safely and efficiently over a live rail line, showcasing the clear advantages of Permadec’s lightweight GRP permanent formwork - improved safety, reduced time onsite, and streamlined construction sequencing.
