Fremantle Traffic Bridge

Fremantle, Western Australia

Aerial view of the Fremantle Traffic Bridge under construction, Fremantle WA - GRP permanent formwork supplied by Permadec

The new Fremantle Traffic Bridge replaces the ageing 1939 timber crossing over the Swan River. It is Australia’s first extradosed bridge and Permadec’s first delivery to a Main Roads Western Australia project.

Permadec designed and supplied GRP permanent formwork across the full bridge deck, seated onto precast TeeRoff girders. 14 distinct panel types were engineered across 40 bays, with each bay requiring its own arrangement to suit the TeeRoff geometry.

Panels were colour-matched to RAL 7044 (Silk Grey), packed to the contractor’s installation sequence, and detailed with a bolted GRP flat bracket sealant system at TeeRoff/edge-segment junctions to prevent grout loss to the Swan River.
